A Doozy of a Week

First full week in Germany was a bit of a doozy.  Food poisoning, train ride, District Counsel, opposition, and some homesickness.  We get to talk to Elder Heilmann tomorrow so there will be another update in a few days, but let's revisit last week.     Let's start with the gross stuff.  FOOD POISONING!  Ugh.  Elder Heilmann was exhausted from his early morning flight and then a 10 hour delay in Dallas, Texas so when he was finally on his international flight to Germany he was a bit out of it.  He was given a Chobani yogurt and immediately dug in.  "It was chunky and gross but I was so hungry, plus jet lag, plus stress..." enter stomach cramps and fatigue. :(     "I've been waking up, I eat something and then I immediately have to lay down and fall back asleep because it hurts.  I'm super nauseous, hard to balance, so I've lost a few pounds because I am not able to eat anything. BUT, I'm better now...mostly." ...

First P Day and What a Journey So Far

Elder Heilmann is now on the loose in Wiesbaden-Sonnenberg, Germany with his companion and Trainer, Elder Tillett.  Since they are in Bavaria, they wear blue shirts as white shirts are more commonly associated with manual labor or "Blue Collar Jobs."  Since the missionaries are technically considered Volunteers, they are to wear blue.  He called me (yay) on Facebook Messenger video for his Pday....Preparation Day.  This is the day the Sisters and Elders on Missions do their shopping for the week, laundry, letters and calls home, etc.  A literal day of preparing for the week ahead.  Theirs just happens to be on Thursday.  It was so fun to receive his call and see his face.  I happened to be in the lobby of the Doctors office and just had to apologize and say, "I have to take this call.  My son is calling me from Germany!"  The receptionist just smiled and told me to carry on. :D Elder Heilmann will be riding the bus around Wiesbaden as ca...

Day 1: First Day in Germany

Elder Heilmann has arrived and is ready to go!  I will be brief in my comments since I included portions of the first email from his Mission President. We are all so excited for Julian....Elder Heilmann...he looks nervous and excited.  Can't wait to hear from him soon.   Reminder: If you want to be included in the group email from Elder Heilmann, let me know.   Dear  Brother & Sister Heilmann ,    We are happy to report that  Elder   Heilmann   arrived safely in the Germany Frankfurt Mission. Sister Hammon and I met all the new missionaries at the Frankfurt airport, and your  son   looked good and was happy to be here. We are always grateful to have new missionaries come into the field as they bring a sense of excitement and a spirit of great faith. It inspires and energizes the whole mission.  Later, Sister Hammon and I both spent some time getting acquainted with your  son . I also took a few min...

He Is Here

He is here.   Three simple words that say so much.  He is here.  He arrived in Germany. He is here.  He is safely at the Mission Home.  He is here.  He is alive and ready to serve the Lord by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the people of Germany. Elder Julian Scott Heilmann left for the Frankfurt, Germany mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 12, 2021.  He will serve there for the next 23 months.  He spent the last six weeks learning a new language and learning how to serve these people in the Lord's way.  We have created this blog as a way to share his experiences and pictures to those who want to follow his journey.  Other pictures and updates will be pinned on Olivia's  Facebook page.  You can also request to be added to a group email that Elder Heilmann will send out.   These will be the BEST two years! Love and Thanks  Tim and Olivia Heilmann
